Situated on the Salem-Hosur High Road, via
Royakottai & Palacode, Somanahalli is a small
hamlet in the State of Tamil Nadu in South
India. The village is accessible by road from
Bangalore, the nearest big city lying some 109
km away in Karnataka State. It has a population
of about five hundred people. They are mostly
engaged in agriculture. Paddy, Ragi, Maize,
Sugar cane, Ground nuts, Flowers and Vegetables,
are the main crops raised in the fields.
Somanahalli is famous for its Drip Irrigation
Farming Water required for cultivation of the
crops is drawn from bore-wells as the
traditional sources; the village tanks are often
dry due to failure of monsoon rains. Some of the

The civic administration of the village falls
within the Panchayat of P. GOLLAHALLI one
kilometer away. Mr. C. Krishnan is the Newly
Elected DMK Party Panchayat President Mr.
Kulandaisamy Panchayat Assistant.Mr.Sivalingam
People welfare worker, Mr.Akkumaran Water
opretor, Mr.Chandran Sheeper.
The Primary Health Centre, Pulikarai and
Government Hospital, Palacode, located 4 km and
7 km away respectively provide health care to
the people of Somanahalli. Main Hospital is
situated in Dharmapuri, Ambulane facility can be
availed from this Hospital only.
There is a Middle School (classes up to eighth
standard) run by the Palacode Union with
government. At present it has strength of three
hundred students who are managed by only three
class teachers, a craft teacher and one Head
Master.
The students squat and write their lessons
keeping their note books and paper on the floor
there being no desks or benches.
Somanahalli also sports a small post-office.

animals use this Veterinary Hospital and birds
are treated here daily. They provide Preventive

Here is a Doctor
Dr. Jayaraman and an Assistant; another vacancy
for a Doctor is Vacant.
17,00,000/- is allotted for the Construction of
New Veterinary Hospital the land is under the
endowment so they are waiting for a No Objection
Certificate NOC for District Revenue Officer DRO.
They are doing a very good service from this
small hospital they attend to all the needs of
the villagers all time.

Cooperative Society and Bank |
Villagers are provided with Loans to do
agriculture and provide seeds Manure at
subsidized rates. This bank also maintains the
farmer’s accounts. Civil Supplies are also taken
care of by this Bank.
There are 612 Ration Cards from 5 Panchayts,
Rice, Wheat, Dhal, Sugar, and other necessary
items are supplied from this society. Old age
People are provided with 78 Kgs of rice Monthly,
People below poverty range are provided 3045 Kgs
rice totally under AAY Scheme. A total of 1336
Ltr Kerosene is Provided 2 person a Sales man
and an Assistant is working here.

Cooperative Milk Society |
There are 50 Members registered here all the
milk from these members are sold to Krishnagiri
Cooperative Milk Depot. Mrs. Mallika
Chakravarthy is the Secretary. Nowadays Milk is
also collected By Private Dairy Arokya and A1
Dairy. So the Cooperative get less or no milk
nowadays. Morning 2 Cans and Evening 1. “Can”
only is being to sent to the Cooperative
Society. |

Village Health Center |
The Nurse Mrs. Liarno is appointed by the Govt
to Stay in the village 24 Hrs and treat the
villagers for Pre Natal and Post Natal Care,
Child Birth and Childcare Vaccination and
inoculation and other Day to day care. She is
provided with Quarters to Stay and all other
facilities from the Govt.
